BURBAGE COMMUNITY LIBRARY
OVER 50 Amazing Volunteers...
and we are always looking for new people to join our friendly team!
From operating the Library System and interacting with our Library Members, there are lots of other interesting activities also all run by our Volunteers - Fund-raising, Events, Social Media, supporting Community Groups, Decorating and DIY / Building Maintenance, maintaining our Gardens.
If you are thinking of joining us and would like to explore further then do please call-in at any time during opening hours for an informal chat. You can also pick-up an Application Form at the Library or by contacting Carole Kemp (Volunteer Coordinator) at furrygang2@hotmail.com, tel. 07534 509791
Carole Kemp, Volunteer Co-ordinator: '' I have been the Volunteer Coordinator for most of my time at the Library, having been taken on as the original Coordinator's assistant. Jessica left due to getting a full-time job and I took over and have never looked back. I look after all the volunteers that sign-up to help at the Library and I am also a Trustee, alongside my husband. I get involved with a lot of Volunteer training and looking after the running of every shift - along with my very able assistant, Jerry Dolphon. Every volunteer willing to work in the Library is thoroughly trained - saying that, though, the whole of the county had a new computer system this year, and we all had to be trained again, including me.
There are many parts to the Library - it's not just being behind the counter. There is also the Garden to take care of, DIY to do from time to time, fundraising to keep the Library open, and groups that use the Library such as 'Knit and Natter' and 'Wriggly Readers'. Groups such as Cubs, Schools and Care Homes are known to come in from time to time for a look round and a sit with a cup of tea and a biscuit. We are also a 'Warm Space' in the Winter, so anyone is invited to drop-in for a warm drink and a biscuit.'
Carol also takes responsibility for the Summer Reading Challenge held every year at the Library - a busy time! 285 children enrolled in the Challenge in 2025 and the Trophy, awarded to the local school whose children have completed the most challenges, is highly sought after!
Last year, over 36 Volunteers were trained in First-Aid Skills, including how to use the Defibrillator positioned on the front wall of the Library.

''A very nice lady, who comes in regularly to use the public computers, came in on 8th December with a box of biscuits, a jar of coffee, a pack of tea and a Christmas Card - all to say thank you to the Library Volunteers for being so welcoming and friendly. She also said that the library is important to her because the WiFi at home is not too good''
(With thanks to volunteer Jane T for sharing this feedback)
The above Photos are from two Warwickshire Mini First Aid Sessions held in May 2025. 32 Library Volunteers completed the course
