Did you know there is a Second-hand Bookshop
within the Library?
The 'Friendly Bookshop' is very well-stocked with books donated to us by the local community. We offer a particularly wide selection of adult fiction, all arranged alphabetically by author surname, plus separate sections devoted to classic literature, including poetry and drama, science fiction and fantasy, and young adult fiction. We generally reckon to have over 1,600 adult fiction books on display! We also have loads of children’s books available. Bring your little ones along for a rummage through the books, but please forgive us – we’ve long since given up trying to keep the children’s books in alphabetical order!
We also have a considerable non-fiction stock, including sections on (for example) arts and crafts, biography, cookery, health and wellbeing, history and politics, humour and puzzles, reference, sport – and loads of ‘miscellaneous’ that get tucked wherever there’s space.
All the books in The Friendly Bookshop have been donated to us and we are very grateful for all donations, whether small – many people just drop off one or two books when popping in – or large, such as last year when a personal library was bequeathed to us in a will. We need your donations to keep us up and running, and to help refresh the stock for the benefit of our regular customers. We also have quite a number of jigsaws available, and are happy to received your donations of these as well, if complete and not with pieces missing.
All we request should you want a second-hand book, is that you consider making a small voluntary donation. The library is staffed by volunteers and we have to raise funds to pay the bills! Proceeds from our bookshop help to keep the library open and running. It is located through the library, in the back room - the old police office (for those who remember that). It is open whenever the library is, so please pay us a visit and browse our shelves. You might just find your next favourite read!
